REFLECTIONS: A meditation
Everyone wants to see their reflection in something. Is that not why the looking glass or mirror is a prized possession in a lady’s handbag or the bathroom? For some it is a daily reminder that they are handsome or beautiful, young or old but the feelings that a mirror arouses are not always complementary. The mirror however, is just one example of a reflection that is prized, and looked in for self confidence, self esteem, and self importance. A bank book, for instance, can be like a mirror which tells a person that they are rich or poor. A house, too, with its design and elegance in a neighbourhood, can easily become a status symbol. The same can be said for almost any thing which is prized as an extension of ones self.
The true mirror of who we are and what we look like is the mirror of God for we are made in his image. (Genesis 1:27) We are a reflection of him who created us. If that is hard to grasp because God cannot be seen like a glass mirror, then the mirror of a life lived in harmony and love for God, is easier to grasp. The life of Jesus is God’s image and by reflection, ours. The life of Jesus is a reflection of just how much God loves us. To see ourselves in that mirror is to discover our true image, our true character and our true life on earth.
