Existence is not enough. It isn’t enough to eat, work, sleep and play. Those things are sure to pass the time away, endlessly, but what are they but survival? Self preservation is necessary to stay alive especially if life is threatened. Yet, there is something missing, something that distinguishes us from machines and biological functions. We are not automatons wound up to perform certain tasks.
LIFE Life, God’s gift, is not mere existence one minute or one movement after another like a clock or a lever. God created us to have friends and families and enjoy them, to care about each other, to have dreams and fulfill dreams; to explore, create and discover the extent of God’s providence; to learn and live in hope and expectation, - great expectation, - because we are loved by God who created us to know and love him and his Son Jesus Christ.
A PROMISE God promises us many things for our happiness as well as our survival. Jesus, who was sent by God said, ‘I have come that you might have life and that more abundantly.’ (John 10:10) The New Testament is like a compass which moves with us and points the way to heaven. Remember that the goal of our existence is much more than living, it is reaching heaven. Let today’s thoughts be about the hope given to us by Jesus that we shall never die.
